And while I love mile-high, freshly baked biscuits, I don&#8217;t always have time to pat out the dough and cut each individual biscuit with a biscuit cutter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I&#8217;m short on time, I prefer making buttermilk drop biscuits instead.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve never made drop biscuits before, the name says it all. The biscuit dough is mixed together, then scooped straight from the bowl and onto a baking sheet. The colder the dough, the flakier and softer the drop biscuits will be.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All-purpose flour: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livewellbakeoften.com\/how-to-measure-flour\/\">Spoon and level the flour<\/a> rather than scooping it straight from the bag. This prevents you from measuring out too much, which can lead to dry biscuits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Baking powder &amp; baking soda:&nbsp;<\/strong>A combination of the two helps the biscuits rise in the oven. The baking soda also helps them brown on the outside.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Granulated sugar:&nbsp;<\/strong>Just two teaspoons are needed to flavor the dough.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Salt:&nbsp;<\/strong>If using salted butter, reduce the amount of salt in the recipe to 3\/4 teaspoon.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unsalted butter:&nbsp;<\/strong>It&#8217;s very important that the butter is fridge cold before being added to the dry ingredients. As the biscuits bake, the chunks of cold butter will create pockets of steam. You&#8217;ll only have to dirty a single mixing bowl and some measuring cups for this recipe!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Whisk together the dry ingredients:&nbsp;<\/strong>Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar to a large mixing bowl. Stir to combine.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cut in the butter:&nbsp;<\/strong>Add just 6 tablespoons of the butter to the dry ingredients. Cut it into the flour mixture using a fork or a pastry cutter. If possible, avoid using your hands as that will warm up the butter (you want it to stay as cold as possible!). They&#8217;ll last up to four days if stored properly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to freeze them:&nbsp;<\/strong>You can also scoop the raw biscuit dough onto a baking sheet.
