And the end result was so delicious, I knew I had to share it with you!<\/p>\n<p>One of the great things about this casserole is that you can&nbsp;prepare it the night before, cover it, and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. Then in the morning, all you have to do is take it out of the refrigerator, preheat the oven, and let it bake. For this recipe, I typically use a 16-18 ounce loaf of French bread from Kroger.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If your bread is fresh, you can also cube it, then place it on a baking sheet and bake it at 350\u00b0F (177\u00b0C) for about 10 minutes or until the bread is dried out. Once the bread is ready, you\u2019ll place about half of it into a 9&#215;13 baking pan.<\/p>\n<p>Then, you\u2019ll toss together some chopped apples with a little sugar and ground cinnamon. For this recipe, I used Kroger\u2019s Honeycrisp apples.<\/p>\n<p>Kroger has so many fresh apples this time of year ranging from Honeycrisp (my personal favorite!) to Gala apples and even Sweet Tango apples too. Every time I go in their store the produce aisle is lined with tons of beautiful apples and other quality produce that is always fresh.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve mentioned it before, but I absolutely adore Kroger because they are a one-stop-shop for all of my fall recipe needs. For the custard mixture, you\u2019ll be using some whole milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Once it\u2019s whisked together, pour it over the bread, cover it, and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.<\/p>\n<p>To make the crumb topping, you&#8217;ll whisk together some flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a little salt. Then you&#8217;ll use a pastry cutter (or fork) to cut some cold butter into the mixture until it&#8217;s nice and crumbly like the picture above.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to make this recipe even easier, you can prepare the topping right after you make the French toast casserole and store it in the refrigerator until you\u2019re ready to bake the casserole.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer my casserole to be a little firm, so I bake it for about 1 hour. If you prefer a softer texture, you can bake it for about 45 minutes. Challah or brioche bread are other great options!
